The Two Heirs

The young princess Ivory Cepheus had always hated living under the shadow of her father. Although she had accepted she’ll never be the perfect daughter for him, she never realized the extent of his displeasure for her until he shattered her soul.

Several decades later, Ivory awakens in a snowy forest. Lost and broken, she’s left alone to wander the country that her father used to rule. With a shattered soul, however, she's constantly on the verge of death. With no history of anyone having survived the ordeal, she thinks that all hope is lost for her...

...Until she meets Axel, the current heir to Alesseia’s throne.

THE TWO HEIRS is a modern fantasy novella set in a Filipino-inspired country called Alesseia where everything alive has magic. It stars the child of the country's past dictator, Ivory Cepheus, who is desperate to be anyone but her dying self. In the process of figuring out how she can come back to life, she discovers:

• The wonders of modern technology
• The tragedies of modern capitalism
• How to enjoy a children's video game series based on capturing monsters
• Freedom to express herself as she pleases (aka no more gowns!)
• What it's like to kill 99.9% of everything she touches, and
• The solution to her dilemma, all within the soul of the country's current heir.

Content warnings include mild unreality, the occasional moderate descriptions of gore and violence, internalized transphobia, and parental abuse.

The prologue and first five chapters were submitted as part of my thesis requirements as a BFA Creative Writing major. The remaining eleven chapters were added to continue the story until its climax were added for fun. It is 44,000+ words of written content.

This story is considered a spin-off for my original series, Alesseia, with several late-game spoilers for the current rendition of the series being present in The Two Heirs. There will likely be a future update wherein I add multiple chapters to improve the latter half's pacing and complete Ivory's story in its entirety.
